Mme Jean Francois Thérese Chalgrin née. Marguerite-Émilie-Félicité-Vernet, baptised 1760, the daughter of Joeph Vernet and Cecilia Virginia Parker. In 1776 she married Jean-Francois Chalgrin, Intendant des Btiments de Monsieur, le comte de Provence. Their daughter, Louise-Josephe Chalgrin, was born in 1777, and in 1794 married Claude Maurin Saugrain of the familiy of Parisian engravers. She was a close friend of Rosalie Bocquet Filleul and Vigée Le Brun. She was arrested at Mme Filleul's home; both were guillotined in 24 July 1794. Maria Theresa Carolina Giuseppina di Borbone (1772-1807), Princess of the Two Sivilles and later Empress of Austria. The Queen of Naples commissioned this portrait of her eldest daughter.
