La duchesse de Guiche - 1794

The Duchesse de Guiche, née Aglaé Louise Francois Gabrielle de Polignac, later Duchesse de Gramont (1768-1812). signed and dated Vigée / Lebrun a / Vienne 1794. For 1794 Vigée le Brun listed, 1 Duchess de Guiche wearing a blue turban, half-length. Vigée le Brun wrote: "I met the Duchesse de Guiche, whose delightful face (detail) had not changed" - Chap. XII. This portrait was displayed in the 2015 Paris Exhibition.

Countess Marie Adelaide Genevieve d'Andlau - 1805
oil on canvas. Marie d'Andlau (1754-1817) was the daughter of the French philosopher, Claude Adrien Helvetius, and Anne Catherine "Minette" de Ligniville (1720-1800) a relation of Marie Antoinette. The sitter married Antoine Henri, comte d'Andlau (1746-1820). She was related to the Hapsburgs, Holy Roman Emperors and thus to Marie Antoinette which is how Claude Helvetius became the tutor of the Queen. Anne Catherine de Ligniville was also related to the marquise du Chatelet, Voltaire's girlfriend. Claude Helvetius was a philosopher of the age of enlightement and a friend of Voltaire.

Lived 1742-1783.Not listed by vlb, though she lists painting his wife. Conseiller au Parlement de Bordeaux puis Maitre des Requetes au Parlement de Paris. This portrait was auctioned on September 20, 2009 by Christophe JORON-DEREM in Paris .
