Head of a Young Woman (Lady Hamilton) - 1790
black chalk on wood, 10-1/2 x 14 inches
A note in French on the reverse side states the Mme. Le Brun made this drawing on a door in the summer house (Casino) of Sir William Hamilton, British minister to Naples, by whose order it was preserved.
"I sketched two small heads in charcoal upon one of these doors" - Vigee Le Brun. The sketch is believed to be of Lady Hamilton.

Giovanni Paisiello - 1791

Giovanni Paisello was a popular composer of the 1790's. Vigee Le Brun attended the premiere of his new opera "Nina o la pazza d'amore" at the San Carlo Opera House in Naples in 1791. He is pictured here with the score of his opera on the clavicord. This portrait was displayed in the 2015 Paris Exhibition.
